When the 2000s generation are born, the medicalcondition is superior, but the expenses from pregnancy, birth and post-birthcare are by no means little. Horizon Research Consultancy Group conducted asurvey entitled “Research about the lifeand consumption culture of the 2000s generation in 2011” and the resultsshow that the average expensesassociated with birth of the 2000s generation has exceeded ￥10,000( 10,425RMB). Only 27.9% of the interviewed young couples say that they were ontheir own in the puerperium period while 66.7% are still in want of the help ofthe elder generation.
Over 90% (90.2%) of the 2000s generation were born inpublic hospitals and 8.6% were born in private pregnancy and baby hospitals.65.4% of the 2000s children were born through traditional spontaneous deliveryand 33.9% through caesarean birth. The survey finds that mothers of the 2000s generationcare much about their figure during the pregnancy. 37.2% of them pay muchattention to their figure and skin care, and 20% and 8% care about their figureand skin care respectively.
The parents of the 2000s generation were mostly bornin the 1970s and 1980s who could hardly manage career and family at the sametime. The post-birth care of newly-born and mother offers a very good example.Only 27.9% of the young couples are independent in the post-birth period and66.7% still rely on the help of the elderly (paternal grandparents 47.2% andmaternal parents 19.5%). What is interesting is that 44.6% and 46.4% of the“new parents” in Chengdu and Guangzhou respectively are self-reliantduring the puerperium period, with much higher rates than other cities.
